Hard-Start Capacitors
This hard-start capacitor provides that extra jolt of energy for starting air conditioner or heat pump compressors that need an extra "jolt" of electricity to get started. Equipment that needs a hard-start capacitor:
- heat pump or condensers split-systems that have a thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) installed on them
- old heat pump or condensers that are mechanically stuck and not operating
If your old compressor isn't starting, install this hard-start capacitor before you do anything else. The parts inside a compressor might be too physically tight to move, or on systems with a TXV where the refrigerant pressures are higher on start-up, and need an extra "kick" of energy to get started.
